Round Robin Chess Tournament System

The round robin system is similar to Swiss Tournament system. Only then, the set of players are divided into two sections. Each player should challenge against all players in that section. After a couple of matches, the player with top record will advance to the next level until only one remains standing.

Satellite chess system is often used in online tournaments. Satellite system uses satellite in order to determine who will be advance to the next level. Since the game the system is hi-tech, the competitions are conducted in different locations.

Rebuy Knockout Chess Tournament

Rebuy system is different from the above mentioned. In this type of tournament, the person pays a specific amount during the early round of the tournament. This money will serves as the payment in order to have another chance of playing the game in the tournament. Although, it sounds a bit funny but it’s the reality. In some instances, a Rebuy has a lot of lost games rather than wins. On the other hand, there are also tournaments that involved money at stake apart from the Rebuy payment.

Heads Up

From the word “heads up” the system literally means to match up directly against other players. Often times, this system is similar to the system used in boxing, in which the titles are at stake. Normally, this system is used by experienced players and grandmasters.

After mentioning the rules in chess tournaments, time is also another factor that affects the game. Conventionally, chess uses two face clocks wherein a player is given a specific time to decide his or her move. Moreover, there are also tournaments that used fixed time like blitz chess. In the game, the player is only given 5 minutes to check mate the opponent. After all, the game mostly ended in a draw or in a time up win.
